Initially, when I heard the news, I thought: "This is good! The man who orchestrated Sept 11 attack is dead!"

But as more reports came out of how he was killed and then 'buried at sea' (a.k.a. dumping his body into the ocean), I felt a bit bad for him.

Nonetheless, no matter who he was or what he did in his life, he ought to be given a proper burial - an acknowledgment that he was too, human. If he didn't live as a Muslim, he should as least be buried as one.

Am I weird for thinking this way?

No one has the right to take another person's life. That is what I believe.

Allow me to further expand on this thought. His death should really mean nothing to terrorists out there, for he was just one among many. This is an issue that can hardly be resolved by violence alone.

  1. they said he was given a proper burial by Islamic standards, even if it's the sea (I don't get how, but whatever).

it's probably closure for those whose family and friends died in september 11, but i agree with you, the problem is not over yet. it's sad how much people in the US celebrated his death, with booze and everything. sometimes i think we're brainwashed by (even disney) movies, with happily ever after once the villain is dead. (and those villains usually don't have loved ones, either) real life isn't that neat and simple.

  2. owh, my bad. i only read one news article and assumed the worst. apparently, his body was washed and given the appropriate treatment according to Islamic traditions, before being lowered down into the sea. US said they followed the rules, but some Muslim clerics disputed this, saying that sea burial is only for 'exceptional circumstances', eg if someone died during a sea voyage and his body will pose a health hazard to other passengers on board.
i agree with you that things are not that simple even with his death. for massive acts of terrorism to happen, lots of manpower is needed and simply, osama couldn't be alone in this. he may be leader, but there could be thousands under his wing - supporting his ideas.we cannot change the world by our power alone, but with the support of others, we can. the same logic extends to terrorists.

and i agree with you. no one has the right to take another's life. and violence is just going to invite more and more violence. haih.
